FAQ

System Requirements?

The fan card customizer requires Firefox 2.0 or higher or Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher. We recommend Firefox. If you need to upgrade your browser, please click here.

What settings work best if I scan a picture?
Our recommendation for scanning will result in the highest quality level.
1. Scan the picture at 300 DPI scaled to 2.5” x 3.5”
2. Set scanning mode to RGB
3. Save as PNG file
4. Upload your photo into one of NFL Team Fan Card templates.

Why does the picture look un-sharp on my monitor?
If your scans are looking bad on the screen, but printing out satisfactorily, it could be your video driver that is causing the problem. Try some different resolution and color settings in the “Display” portion of your control panel (after first making sure that you have the proper driver disks to restore your system to the original settings). You should be using a driver that provides 16+million colors, and a resolution of at least 800 x 600.

What does image resolution mean?
Resolution refers to the number of pixels in an image. Resolution is sometimes identified by the width and height of the image as well as the total number of pixels in the image. For example, an image that is 2048 pixels wide and 1536 pixels high (2048X1536) contains (multiply) 3,145,728 pixels (or 3.1 Megapixels). You could call it a 2048X1536 or a 3.1 Megapixel image. As the megapixels in the pickup device in your camera increase so does the possible maximum size image you can produce. This means that a 5 megapixel camera is capable of capturing a larger image than a 3 megapixel camera.

What does image quality mean?
In addition to image size, the quality of the image can also be manipulated. Here we use the word “compression”. An uncompressed image is saved in a file format that doesn’t compress the pixels in the image at all. Formats such as BMP or TIF files do not compress the image. If you want to reduce the “file size” (number of megabytes required to save the image), you can choose to store your image as a JPG file and choose the amount of compression you want before saving the image.

JPG compression analyzes images in blocks of 8X8 pixels in size and selectively reduces the detail within each block. At higher compression rations, the block pattern becomes more visible and there may be noticeable loss of detail, especially when you attempt to make prints larger than recommended. The subject and pattern in the image is also a factor. For example, a picture of the blue sky can be compressed quite a bit without any noticeable effects but a picture of a colorful bird would “pixelate” quite quickly. Take another look at the two images at the top. The first is somewhat compressed, about 200 pixels high (size) and the file is only 14Kb. The image on the right is the same size but compressed quite a bit more reducing the file size to 4Kb.

Re-sampling Image Resolution?
Keep in mind that re-sampling can result in poorer image quality. For example, when you resample an image to a larger pixel dimensions, the image loses some detail and sharpness. Applying the un-sharp mask filter to a re-sampled image can help refocus the image detail.

General FAQ's

1. How many photos can I upload?
There are no limits on how many images you can have in your account or how many fan cards you can create.

2. Is there a maximum image size?
The current size limit for each image is 5MB. If your images are larger than 5MB use a photo editing program (such as Photoshop) and either resize your image or reduce the image resolution (we recommend keeping the resolution between 200 and 300 dpi.)

3. Why is it taking time to upload?
The upload time or your images varies greatly and largely depends on your Internet Service Provider’s (ISP) upload speeds. Remember, many ISPs have a much slower upload speed than download speed. Our image servers’ support uploads at up to 100MB/sec, which in most cases is more than 500 times the speed of an internet connection to guarantee the fastest uploads to all users. Typically, it can take +/- 1min per 1MB of upload on slower lines.

4. Are there any uploading tips?
• Try and avoid uploading large images over 5MB (the maximum file size is 5.5MB) as these are unnecessary unless you are producing large format prints

• Minimize the browser window and work on something else while files are uploading.

• Before uploading, organize your images into folders that represent the albums you want to make as this will help save time searching for image online afterwards.
